Super-extended nanofiber-guided field for coherent interaction with hot atoms

We fabricate an extremely thin optical fiber that supports a super-extended mode with diameter as large 13 times the wavelength, residing almost entirely outside and guided over thousands of wavelengths (5 mm), to couple light warm atomic vapor. This unique configuration balances between strong confinement, evident by saturation powers low tens nW, long interaction thermal atoms, thereby enabling fast coherent interactions. demonstrate narrow resonances (tens MHz) electromagnetically induced transparency for signals at single-photon level relaxation (10 ns) atoms excited mode. The dimensions mode’s evanescent field are compatible Rydberg blockade mechanism, making this platform particularly suitable observing quantum nonlinear optics phenomena.
